SPAM Cup Citizen Race Series

Spam Results
For the 2019-20 season, WYSEF will be hosting only one SPAM Cup.  We're lucky enough to live in a Nordic skiing heaven and our regional friends also host weekend events.  The season is chock-full of weekend events and we're not ones to step on friends' toes.
Reminder:  All participants and spectators must purchase a trail pass. A day pass can be purchased at the fee tube at the Trailhead Building. Be sure to have exact change. You can also get day, season and family passes at Freeheel and Wheel, the Chamber of Commerce or the Hebgen Lake Ranger Station during regular business hours. Registered racers will be asked to show their pass prior to bib pick up. Thank you for your cooperation!

In 1997, the SPAM Cup race series was developed by West Yellowstone locals Steve Morse, former owner of Nancy P's Bakery, and Scott Carsley, former owner of Yellowstone Alpen Guides, to give skiers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to try Nordic ski racing for a low cost and without the pressure of a SuperTour or other national race affiliation.  At the time, the Rendezvous Race, held annually in March, was the only mid-winter race that brought skiers to town.

Why "SPAM"?  Because ...it just doesn't matter!  SPAM, the beloved potted meat, is not the healthiest food source if you're a Nordic racer.  This slogan and "mascot" were chosen to help attract those skier who normally wouldn't choose to race, but who did have a solid sense of humor.  The original entry fee was $5.00 per race.  Our winner's prizes have evolved with the times as well.  The winners of each distance win a one-of-a-kind, museum-worthy, handcrafted, West Yellowstone Ski Team decorated can of SPAM.  You know you want one!

West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation (WYSEF) quickly added the SPAM Series to its roster of events and now hosts a SPAM Cup each year.  The cost is still low, the pressure is even lower, and the fun is at an all time high.  Skiers come from West Yellowstone, Teton Valley, and even Cody to try their hand at winning a coveted SPAM Cup trophy.

Registration for SPAM Cups happens on race day from 9:00am-9:45am.  Races start at 10:00am.
